Out of curiosity a made a Google Search on the same and was amazed to find that the lyrics of the song were actually written by Mary Schmich a journalist with the Chichago Tribune. She described the column as the speech she would give if invited to speak at a college commencement. As she perceived the event to be unlikely, she dispenses the advice in her column titled "Advice, like youth, probably just wasted on the young".

There have been a lot of parodies and spoofs over the song in the past few years. Some notable notorities include
